permeability

In physics, the degree to which the presence of a substance alters the magnetic field around it. Most substances have a small constant permeability. When the permeability is less than 1, the material is a diamagnetic material; when it is greater than 1, it is a paramagnetic material. Ferrimagnetic materials have very large permeabilities. See also magnetism.
