perspirationExcretion of water and dissolved substances from the sweat glands of the skin of mammals. Perspiration has two main functions: body cooling by the evaporation of water from the skin surface, and excretion of waste products such as salts. In 2001, German researchers discovered an antibiotic protein, dermcidin, that is exuded in sweat. Dermcidin was found to be effective against four common species of bacteria when tested.
