anhydride

Chemical compound obtained by the removal of water from another compound; usually a dehydrated acid. For example, sulphur(VI) oxide (sulphur trioxide, SO3) is the anhydride of sulphuric acid (H2SO4).

For monobasic acids, such as carboxylic acids, the formation of an anhydride involves the loss of a molecule of water from two molecules of acid or from two carboxylic groups within one molecule, the latter resulting in a ring closure.

There came a point when benzol and crude coking tar maker Deza knew it needed to improve the performance of its phthalic anhydride (PA) plant at Valasske Mezirici in the Czech Republic.
Most recently, he led DC Chemical's business, including products such as coal tar chemicals, BTX, phthalic anhydride and carbon black, among others.
In modern plants, typical batch times are 16-19 hours for alkyds, 14-16 hours for saturated polyesters (with phthalic anhydride feed) and 18-25 hours for saturated polyesters (with isophthalic acid feed), respectively.
