Freshwater bony fish. It is common in the rivers and lakes of Europe and western Asia, and also found in North America. It may reach as much as 1 m/3.3 ft in length. Pike-perch feed on other fish.

Pike-perch Lucioperca lucioperca are in order Perciformes, class Osteichthyes.

In North America, fishes of the genus Stizostedion are also known as pike-perches.
