pingo

Landscape feature of tundra terrain consisting of a hemispherical mound about 30 m/100 ft high, covered with soil that is cracked at the top. The core consists of ice, probably formed from the water of a former lake. The lake that forms when such a feature melts after an ice age is also called a pingo.

Pingos at the Mackenzie River delta in northern Canada reach heights of up to 50 m/165 ft.
