Opera by Vincenzo Bellini (libretto by Felice Romani), produced in Milan at La Scala, on 27 October 1827. In the story, Ernesto has forced Imogene to marry him despite her love for Gualtiero, who in desperation turns to piracy. When Gualtiero is shipwrecked near Ernesto's castle, the lovers meet, but their joy is short lived: Gualtiero kills Ernesto and is sentenced to death.
