| Vocal ornament in plainsong, inserting long cadential phrases on the syllables of certain words, notably ‘Alleluia’. The pneuma were also called by the Latin name of jubili, and they developed later into tropes (interpolations) and sequences. It is sometimes written neuma, by confusion with the word for a neume. |
