pneumocystis pneumonia

In medicine, type of pneumonia due to infection with Pneumocystis pneumoniae. It occurs in immunosuppressed or severely debilitated patients and it is the most common cause of pneumonia in patients with AIDS. It is treated with high doses of co-trimoxazole or with pentamidine.
