potassium manganate(VII)

Dark purple, crystalline solid, soluble in water, that is a strong oxidizing agent in the presence of dilute sulphuric acid. In the process of oxidizing other compounds it is itself reduced to manganese(II) salts (containing the Mn2+ ion), which are colourless.
