pound cost averaging

    0.07 sec.

pound cost averaging

Investment strategy involving the purchasing of equities on a regular basis over time as an alternative to purchasing the same equities in one bulk purchase. The purpose of pound cost averaging is to smooth out the fluctuations in price of the equities purchased. If a bulk purchase of equities is made and the price of that equity falls, the investor loses out. However, if the investor makes his purchase at regular intervals they will get progressively more shares for their money as the price falls.
