precipitate

In chemistry, solid (insoluble) substance sometimes produced when two solutions are mixed or when a gas is passed into a solution. In an equation the precipitate is often represented by the symbol (s).

AgNO3(aq) + NaCl(aq) → AgCl(s) + NaNO3(aq)

Ca(OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l)
