pressure group

Association that puts pressure on governments, businesses, or parties to ensure laws and treatment favourable to its own interest. Pressure groups have played an increasing role in contemporary Western democracies. In general they fall into two types: groups concerned with a single issue, such as nuclear disarmament, and groups attempting to promote their own interest, such as oil producers.
