primrose![]() Drumstick primula (Primula denticulata). Native to the Himalayas, the drumstick primula is one of 500 species of the Primulaceae, or primrose, family. Primroses thrive in cool or alpine regions, and most are native to the northern hemisphere. The five petals of the drumstick primula are white or mauve in colour. Any of a group of plants belonging to the primrose family, with showy five-lobed flowers. The common primrose (P. vulgaris) is a woodland plant, native to Europe, with abundant pale yellow flowers in spring. Related to it is the cowslip. (Genus Primula, family Primulaceae.)
