Princess Royal

Title borne only by the eldest daughter of the British sovereign, granted by royal declaration. It was first borne by Mary, eldest daughter of Charles I, probably in imitation of the French court, where the eldest daughter of the king was styled ‘Madame Royale’. The title is currently held by Princess Anne.
