product recall

Withdrawal of a product from the market, usually due to the discovery of a product defect. Product recall is an essential element of a crisis management strategy. The timing and scale of a product recall will have a significant effect on public relations. Examples of product recalls carried out by major companies include Intel's recall of the Pentium microchip because of a processing flaw, the recall of Perrier mineral water after contamination, and Johnson & Johnson's recall of Tylenol after product tampering had led to a number of deaths.
