prograde orbit

In an orbiting satellite, an orbit in which the satellite travels in the same direction as the planet's rotation. It is the opposite of a retrograde orbit.

A planet has a prograde orbit or rotation if the sense of rotation is the same as the general sense of rotation of the Solar System. On the celestial sphere, it refers to motion from west to east against the background of stars.
