Opera by Amilcare Ponchielli (libretto by E Praga based on Manzoni's novel), produced at Cremona on 30 August 1856. In the story, Renzo and Lucia are to marry but the wedding is interrupted by Don Rodrigo. Having sought refuge in a convent, Lucia is kidnapped by L'Innominato, but she escapes, and takes holy orders. When at last she meets Renzo again her vows are dissolved and the wedding takes place.
