prorogation

In Britain, the termination of a session of Parliament and the setting of the date for a new session. All business, including bills before Parliament, is terminated by prorogation and must, if desired, be reintroduced in the following session. The only exceptions to this are impeachment proceedings by the House of Commons (now obsolete) and appeals before the House of Lords. The period between sessions is known as a ‘recess’.
