psychosomatic

Of a physical symptom or disease thought to arise from emotional or mental factors.

The term ‘psychosomatic’ has been applied to many conditions, including asthma, migraine, hypertension, and peptic ulcers. Whereas it is unlikely that these and other conditions are wholly due to psychological factors, emotional states such as anxiety or depression do have a distinct influence on the frequency and severity of illness.
