Warren

Industrial city and administrative headquarters of Trumbull County, northeast Ohio, USA; population (2000) 46,800. It is situated on the Mahoning River, 21 km/13 mi northwest of Youngstown and 85 km/53 mi southeast of Cleveland. Steel and iron, machinery, car parts, tools, electrical equipment, and paint are produced. Warren was settled in 1799, and developed as an iron and coalmining town.

Native James Ward Packard manufactured the first Packard automobiles here. Local attractions include Phalanx Mill, a relic of a Fourierist colony of the 1840s (inhabited by followers of the French socialist Charles Fourier). The city is home to a branch of Kent State University.
