ramping

Artificially boosting a company's share price by hinting at forthcoming good news and generally talking the company up. Ramping of shares is particularly prevalent on share bulletin boards on the Internet, where gossip and rumour is used by investors to inflate the price so that they can sell at a profit. Ramping may also involve purchasing shares as part of the strategy to drive the price up.
