recherché

(French ‘sought after’) rare, hard to find; often used to mean highly refined, exotic, or pretentious.

recherché

French equivalent of ricercato, from which the ricercare is derived; Beethoven still used this old term, as meaning strict fugal writing, in his Great Fugue for string quartet, Op. 133, which he called a fugue ‘tantôt libre, tantôt recherchée’.
