reprise

In music, a repeat of previous material, usually following an intervening and contrasting section. In sonata form the term has two meanings: usually it is synonymous with recapitulation, but in early sonatas in which a double bar precedes the development it may refer to a repeat of the exposition, as in sonatas by C P E Bach. In rondo form the term denotes the recurring main theme. In the binary form composition of 17th-century France, the term denotes the second section, as in dance movements in the suites of Jean-Henri D'Anglebert (1635–1691).
