In music, term indicating that the metrical scheme of a piece or movement is to be accented in groups of as many bars as may be shown in this direction between the second and third word. It is used in the Scherzo of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, where the metre changes between ritmo di tre battute and ritmo di quattro battute.
