ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Il

Opera by Monteverdi (libretto by G Badoaro), produced at the Teatro San Cassiano, Venice, in February 1641. The story concerns Ulysses, who, with the help of the goddess Minerva, finds his way back home to Penelope his wife. Dressed as a beggar, he slays her suitors. Juno and Jupiter restore his identity and Ulysses wins back Penelope.
