An example of a salsa rhythm.

Popular music style of Cuban origin which draws on a variety of Latin American and jazz influences. Salsa rhythms are based on Afro-American dances such as the bolero and cha cha cha. Layered polymeters and hemiolas (in which two bars of triple time are articulated in the manner of three bars in duple time) are common, but the distinctive feature underlying the whole structure is the two-bar clave.
