The morning glory is a vinelike plant that bears large, purplish-blue, trumpet-shaped flowers. The seeds of certain species were once used by the Central American Indians, the Aztecs, to induce hallucinations during religious ceremonies. Nowadays, it is grown as an ornamental.

Any of a group of twining or creeping plants native to tropical America, especially I. purpurea, with dazzling blue flowers. Small quantities of substances similar to the hallucinogenic drug LSD are found in the seeds of some species. (Genus Ipomoea, family Convolvulaceae.)

Big-root morning glory (I. pandurata) is native to the eastern US.
