scaup

Duck Aythya marila, in the family Anatidae, order Anseriformes, which frequents northern Europe, Asia, and the USA. The male duck is a greenish-black colour on the head, chest, and tail coverts, and has a grey back, and white flanks and underparts. This makes the drake appear black at either end and pale in the middle from normal viewing distances. The female is a dark brown colour. It lines a hollow amongst vegetation for a nest.
