scrub bird

One of two Australian birds of the genus Atrichornis, order Passeriformes. Both are about 18 cm/7 in long, rather wrenlike but long-tailed. Scrub birds are good mimics.

The noisy scrub bird Atrichornis clamosus was feared to be extinct, but has been rediscovered, although numbers are still low. The other species is the rufous scrub bird A. rufescens.
