service tree

Deciduous tree (S. domestica) with alternate pinnate leaves (leaflets growing either side of the stem), creamy white flowers, and small, brown, edible, oval fruits, native to Europe and Asia. The European wild service tree (S. torminalis) has oblong rather than pointed leaflets. It is related to the mountain ash. (Genus Sorbus, family Rosaceae.)
