Verb which generally shows only mood. Common modals are may/might; will/would; can/could; shall/should; must.

Modals are used in a wide variety of expressions, including negatives: ‘You may not enter.’; possibility: ‘Can you help me?’; certainty: ‘That must be the answer.’; probability: ‘We ought to leave.’; and obligation: ‘I have to leave.’
