silicosis

Chronic disease of miners and stone cutters who inhale silica dust, which makes the lung tissues fibrous and less capable of aerating the blood. It is a form of pneumoconiosis.

Coal slag contains very low silica levels, so it doesn''t contribute to the risk of developing Silicosis.
This form is not effective as an insecticide and may also contain a high level of crystalline silica which, when inhaled, can cause silicosis, a deadly lung disease.
Or it may take decades for silicosis to develop in a construction worker exposed to silica dust for years from sandblasting, demolition or concrete work.
