slip-off slope

    0.06 sec.

slip-off slope

Gentle slope forming the inner bank of a meander (bend in a river). It is formed by the deposition of fine silt, or alluvium, by slow-flowing water.

As water passes round a meander the fastest current sweeps past the outer bank, eroding it to form a steep river cliff. Water flows more slowly past the inner bank, and as it reduces speed the material it carries is deposited around the bank to form a slip-off slope.
