Sly

Opera by Wolf-Ferrari (libretto by G Forzano, based on the prologue of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew), produced at La Scala, Milan, on 29 December 1927. In the story, Sly suffers a practical joke: he is made to believe he is an aristocrat suffering from amnesia rather than a poor poet. Dolly, mistress of the Duke of Westmoreland, falls for him, but she cannot save him from a lowly death in the dungeon.
