intelligent terminal

In computing, a terminal with its own processor that can take some of the processing load away from the main computer. The amount of processing done by the terminal varies. It may be concerned mainly with formatting the input and output data exchanged with the main computer, as on a thin client, or it may be more extensive, as when a personal computer is used as a terminal.
