Snowdrops flower in the early spring when snow may still be on the ground in the woodlands and shrubland of Europe. The small drooping flowers hang about 15 cm/6 in above the ground. They have six petals, the three inner ones having a green patch.

Small bulbous European plant; its white bell-shaped hanging flowers, tinged with green, are among the first to appear in early spring. (Galanthus nivalis, family Amaryllidaceae.)
