soap opera

Television or radio serial melodrama. It originated in the USA in the 1930s as a series of daytime radio programmes sponsored by soap-powder and detergent manufacturers.

The popularity of the genre has led to soap operas being shown at peak viewing times in many languages and countries.

Has anyone considered that the reason why many women are so drawn to the soap opera could be the possibility of a different kind of relationship between a husband and wife.
