mixer

In sound recording, equipment that allows an engineer to set a different volume level for each individual sound track so that solos can be highlighted and loud instruments can be kept from dominating softer ones. Multimedia systems that allow recording generally include similar, though not as sophisticated, functions through software. This is useful in applications such as adding background music to a scene where two people are talking and it is important to hear the voices clearly over the music.
