Study of the biological basis of all social behaviour, including the application of population genetics to the evolution of behaviour. It builds on the concept of inclusive fitness, contained in the notion of the ‘selfish gene’. Contrary to some popular interpretations, it does not assume that all behaviour is genetically determined.
