In alternative medicine, treatment based on the finding that human blood cells respond to sound frequencies by changing colour and shape, and the hypothesis that therefore sick or rogue cells can be healed or harmonized by sound. Although sound therapy in some form can claim a history dating back to ancient times, modern sound theory was developed and researched in the 1990s by French musician and acupuncturist Fabien Maman and US physicist Joel Sternheimer. It was claimed that sound frequencies applied to acupuncture points are as effective as needles.
