sound-level indicator

    0.06 sec.

sound-level indicator

Instrument used to measure the intensity or loudness of sound.

Readings are given on a decibel (dB) scale that compares the sound level with the threshold of human hearing (standardized as an intensity of 1.0 × 10−12 watts per square metre). A specialised scale called the dBA scale gives a weighted reading that takes into account the ear's sensitivity to different frequencies.
