spadix

In botany, an inflorescence consisting of a long, fleshy axis bearing many small, stalkless flowers. It is partially enclosed by a large bract or spathe. A spadix is characteristic of plants belonging to the family Araceae, including the arum lily Zantedeschia aethiopica.
