speech recognition software

    0.02 sec.

speech recognition software

Computing system that enables data to be input by voice. A microphone connects to the sound card in the computer which converts the analogue signals of the voice to digital signals which can then be processed. Examples include Dragon Naturally Speaking, IBM's Via Voice, Philip's SpeechMagic, and iListen from MacSpeech Inc.

The user must read sample sentences to the computer on first use to familiarize it with individual pronunciation. Early software was very inaccurate and slow but by the early 21st century speeds of 160 words per minute with 95–99% accuracy were achievable.
