cuscus

Tree-dwelling marsupial found in Australia, New Guinea, and Sulawesi. There are five species, all about the size of a cat. They have a prehensile tail and an opposable big toe.

Phalanger spilocuscus is known as the spotted cuscus or tiger cat; P. ursinus and P. celebensis are natives of the Celebes.

Classification

Cuscuses are in genus Phalanger, in the family Phalangeridae (possums), order Marsupialia, class Mammalia.
