spray paint

Type of fabric paint used to decorate and colour fabric. Paint or dye is applied to fabric using a diffuser or airbrush. Spraying produces subtle variations and gradations in colour, which leads many textiles artists to use the technique to colour backgrounds for their work. Using stencils, spray painting can be a successful technique. Decorative patterns can be achieved by masking off different areas.

Spray painting became quite popular in decorating and colouring fabrics during the late 20th century.
