starting blocks

Starting blocks have officially been used at the start of sprint races since 1937. Prior to this, athletes dug footholds into the cinder track to gain grip. Starting blocks have evolved to include pressure pads to monitor the athletes' movement, preventing anyone getting an unfair advantage by beating the gun.
