anode |
Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Medical, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia | 0.06 sec. |
anodeThe positive electrode in an electrolytic cell (see electrolysis), thermionic valve, cathode ray tube, or similar device, towards which negative particles are attracted. The negative particles originate from the cathode. In these cases the flow of electrons is out of the device at the anode. The term is also inconsistently applied in some other cases to electrodes at which the flow of electrons is into the device – for example, to the positive terminal of a battery.
