stent

In medicine, small metal tube or coil inserted in the coronary artery to keep it open after balloon angioplasty. Stents that slowly release drugs are used to prevent further narrowing of arteries.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, around 84% of the 660,000 patients hospitalized for coronary angioplasty received a stent implant.
