structural geology

Branch of geology dealing with the physical shape of rock formations, from large-scale features such as mountain belts and rift valleys, to microscopic features such as deformed mineral grains. Structural geologists deal with the brittle and ductile deformation of planetary surfaces and the processes that cause deformation.
