subject drift

subject drift

In computing, tendency for postings in message boards to wander away from their original subject matter. As threads accumulate in response to a posting, the subject heading is retained, but the discussions can rapidly go off at a tangent. Thus a thread headed ‘Re: Ice cream – favourite flavours’ might actually be a long-running discussion about Napoleon.
